Dear Kate,

I will begin by telling you "Thank You" for one of the most enjoyable evenings of my memory.  But first of all I will tell you a bit about me.  I am nearly 89 yrs. old and live in May Creek Lodge which is a facility for assisted living that is only a block away from the UCC church where we saw you on THAT NIGHT!!  I will never forget you, and I believe strongly in your message.  I lived and was part of  "The Greatest Generation" (according to Tom Brokaw)  I don't think he's right, but for him maybe it was.  I am an ordinary person.  I raised 3 sons who turned out to be fine men.  That's my proudest accomplishment.  None of them are famous except in their own little worlds.

I am a crafts person and I am ( not bragging) very good a what I do--and have done over the years.  I used to be a draftsman for a large industrial company.  This was in the 1940's --I was the best they had--BUT getting 1/2 the salary that the men received.  When I quit for another better paying job they offered me a job as head of the Art Dept. or a good raise in pay.  My answer was "If I 'm worth that today, wasn't I worth that a year ago?"   When I mentioned the descrepency in my salary and the men. they said "well, the men have families and kids."  They knew I was a single parent with three boys and house payments, etc.  So, that excuse didn't work--I left.  Oh, well--water over the dam.

I do hope you come back to Walker in my lifetime, but until then I will carry the memory of you always. Thanks again.

 Sincerely yours,

Ann Jablonski

P.S.  I'm a  knitter, miniaturist, watercolorist, letter writer and nusiance.

(On the back of the letter she wrote)

I think you are very beautiful.  Your singing and your gestures were so lovely and graceful.  Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that your final song gestures had some "singing" included.  My oldest grand daughter- now a sophomore at UCLA is hearing impaired to an extent so I am aware of signing when I see it, even though I don't understanding it--except     (she drew the hand sign for I love you )
Please excuse the boo-boo's--that's part of being old!!

Dear Kate:

Thank you so much for your wonderful performance on Friday evening (April 28, 2006 at Lyceum in Alexandria, VA).  What an INSPIRATION! The audience loved it!   Some of our women artists in the audience were left with tears in their eyes.  Miseret, our Ethiopian painter told me how much your play answered her personal questions about life in America as an immigrant woman.  Heartfelt Thank You for EVERYTHING!  (We raised close to $5,000!!!)

On March 21, 2006 Kate performed at a community outreach of Women: Back to the Future for TheMontgomery County, MD Business and Professional Women (BPW) at the Doubletree Hotel in Rockville, MD.  The following is an excerpt from a letter BPW received on that performance.

Dear Susan,
Please pass on to the members of Montgomery County BPW a big thank you from the Girls Scout Troop 43 for the opportunity to attend your meeting last night and to be the privileged guests of Kate Campbell Stevenson's performance, Women: Back to the Future.

Ms, Stevenson's performance was inspiring to Catie, Beth, and the Girl Scouts that attended with me....My daughter Catie, with another friend of hers has started a feminist club at Albert Einstein High School. And she plans on being a writer as well-- Ms. Stevenson's urging of     "write your own history" made an impression.  The event set off a great conversation on the way home that continued until bedtime.

What a great outreach opportunity!

Sincerely,
Jacquie Padgett

Dear Kate:

"The hall was bursting with beautiful and enriching song." It was "an extraordinary event." There was a "feeling of warmth and love shared by Marian Anderson's community." These are just a few of the many accolades I heard about the February 27 Marian Anderson Tribute and your performance in it.

Many thanks for traveling north to Connecticut to share your talents with us. It could not be easy to perform in front of members of Miss Anderson's hometown crowd, including some of her former nurses, but you definitely charmed them.

You will no doubt be pleased to know that the limited edition cachet envelopes brought in $2,000.00 to support the Marian Anderson Studio at the Danbury Museum. The Danbury Music Centre had a capacity crowd of 200 people of all ages in attendance. So many people have commented that the program was entertaining even before you stood up to sing, and then it became enthralling. A number of audience members have asked me to keep them informed if you perform in this area again.

Again, Kate, our heartfelt thanks at your valued contribution to this special occasion.

Warm Regards,

Barbara Smith

Dear Kate,

Our troop of girls ages 10-14 really enjoyed your presentation and performance. I, for one, have not been to anything like it and thought you were just amazing and very talented. A great deal can be learned from your performance about perseverance and obtaining goals we thought we never could. Thanks! You were a great inspiration!

I have been truly fortunate to be able to see two of your performances - one as a professional employee at the Environmental Protection Agency and the other as a Girl Scout leader with my Girl Scout troop. Both shows were extraordinary! Your theatrical ability is out of this world (you should be on Broadway!), and your shows are extremely inspiring and entertaining as well as educational. As an environmental attorney I was especially inspired by your portrayal of Rachel Carson - an ordinary person doing extraordinary things to protect public health and the environment. The girls in my Girl Scout troop were fascinated with your transformation into each character. You actually seemed to bring that person alive on stage for a few minutes. Not only did they learn a lot about the courage and dreams of each women, they learned that they too can follow their dreams and be whatever they want to be. Your show is extremely rewarding and your characters are all great role models which today’s girls desperately need.

Sincerely,

Dear Ms. Stevenson,

Thank you for your very motivating and inspiring program Women: Back to the Future that you presented to our 8th graders, May of 2004.

Your presentation had such a positive impact on all of our students, encouraging them to dream big, to go for those dreams, and to believe in themselves and their talents.

Musically and dramatically portraying four women from history that had to face many obstacles and odds, yet overcoming all of them to reach and surpass their goals, was so motivating to our students, and tied in very nicely with our History and Science curriculums. When often times students' self esteem and confidence is squelched by circumstances and society's expectations in general (especially young womens')... Your stories sent very hopeful and encouraging messages to the students. The use of make-up application and change of costumes during the program was very captivating, and your beautiful voice with song and dramatization was phenomenal, and definitely attention-getting.

We all left your program feeling uplifted. Teachers who attended were buzzing with positive feedback, noting how we had to have you back next year. The discussions in class following your presentation were wonderful to hear, as the students were so excited and inspired from your messages and character portrayals from history.

Thank you for your fantastic program and for your very positive message that young students especially need to hear.

Sincerely,

Dear Kate:

On behalf of the Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education (AGELE) and the Maryland State Department of Education, I want to thank you for your excellent presentation, Women: Back to the Future, at AGELE's recent 25th anniversary national conference, Educational Equity As a Civil Right: A Capital Idea! Participants who attended your session were inspired by the stories you told of women of diverse backgrounds, and commented on the professionalism of your performance. Conference attendees also enjoyed learning more about your programs through interacting with vou throughout the conference and from viewing your materials at the conference resource display.

It is important for women and girls to see role models from women's history, and for men and boys to learn of the remarkable contributions that women have made to all areas of society. Your work highlights the strength, courage, creativity, and resilience of women in overcoming barriers and in making a difference in building our nation.

Best wishes for continued success in reaching out to schools and communities in Maryland and across the nation. AGELE and the Maryland State Department of Education look forward to working with you in the future. We also hope that you will be an active partner in helping us develop the Maryland Women's Heritage Center, which will be the first state center of its kind in the nation. Your insights and enthusiasm will add a great deal to the Center's development.

Sincerely,

Dear Kate,

On behalf of the Greenway High School Parent Action Club, I am writing to thank you for helping us accomplish our most successful fundraising event ever! Beyond the students, teachers and parents from Greenway, hundreds of people from throughout the Phoenix area were mesmerized by your amazing show. Your performaces of Women: Back to the Future achieved the following goals for Greenway:

Your beautiful voice and accomplished acting did indeed make your characters come alive. We were also inspired by your personal courage in flying to Phoenix September 18th in the wake of the 9-11 tragedy. Your example and your program helped us all cope with reality and move on toward our dreams and uncharted paths.

You are one terrifically talented lady and I would be happy to sing your praises to any other school, group or organization interested in our experience with Women: Back to the Future. We are definitely looking forward to meeting your new characters at a future performance at Greenway!

Dear Kate:

On behalf of the Lowcountry Tech Prep Consortium I would like to thank you for bringing Women: Back to the Future to South Carolina. Your amazing talent, your passionate committment to excellence, and your insightful interaction with your audiences renders Women: Back to the Future as an incredible event. Your presence was certainly a most appropriate addition to our statewide celebration of Carolina Careers Week.

There is no doubt that many of the more than 3,000 students on the Lowcountry who attended your performances were inspired to believe in themselves and reach for that special gift hidden deep within each of them. We have received nothing but extremely positive comments about your presentations. The energy level that allowed you to conduct three performances per day for four consecutive days in six different locations was unbelievable. Thank you for exerting the extra effort that enabled us to reach as many students as possible during your visit.

I certainly hope that you will be able to return to South Carolina some time in the not too distant future. We will always have students here in the Lowcountry that need to hear your message.

Bravo for a job well done!

Yours truly,

Dear Kate:

The National School-to-Work Office (NSTWO) would like to thank you for your contribution to the overwhelming success of the School-to-Work 2000: Thinking About Tomorrow conference. The conference hosted close to 1300 attendees, representing education, business, community organizations, parents and a visible and vocal group of young people. Thinking About Tomorrow, a celebration of the accomplishments of school-to-work, left participants with practical information, valuable tools, an expanded network, an appreciation for the promise and challenges that lie ahead, and an optimism for what is possible.

As you know, the conference was multi-faceted, and your contribution was invaluable to its success. Your captivating one-women performances of Women: Back to the Future received rave reviews and served to motivate and inspire conference participants to recognize positive character traits in historical women in American history. Your stories of women, such as Bessie Coleman and Abigail Adams who overcame barriers to succeed and leave their mark on history were both educational and inspirational. The Teachers Guide to your performance has made it possible for participants to continue the learning innovations back in the classroom through a variety of follow-up activities including creative writing and career exploration.

Your individual contribution to the youth agenda and our collective mark at local, state, and national levels has transformed the nature of work and learning in this country. It took your energy and commitment to excellence to make this event powerful for all who attended. The NSTWO appreciates your active involvement in our celebration of school-to-work and wishes you continued success in your own tomorrows.

Sincerely
